Enforced Fluoridation Juggernaut Gathers Momentum

The West Coast DHB approving fluoridation of the Greymouth water supply should warn other districts being lined up by the Health Ministry for similar tactics, according to the Democrats' social issues researcher and Canterbury/West Coast health spokesman David Tranter.

According to my sources the next fluoridation propaganda blitz - in Westland - will be followed by a similar process in Buller and then Canterbury as the Ministry seeks to enforce fluoridation on everyone dependent on public water supplies Mr. Tranter said.

Typical of the DHB's propaganda in the Grey District is their advertisement in the Greymouth Evening Star (26 March) giving an extensive list of individuals and groups who "Agree" with fluoridation, this being alongside a column headed "Disagree" and which includes just one group - the Fluoride Action Network. This is completely misleading since there are vast numbers of other individuals and groups world-wide citing well-documented evidence raising grave concerns about fluoridation. Incredibly, the DHB allege there is no evidence questioning fluoridation.

Further, while the vast majority of recent letters to the GES editor were well-argued and with many citing evidence from authoritative sources, the pro-fluoridation line was typified by the area's principal dental officer Martin Lee who wrote to the paper likening those opposing fluoridation to Al Quaeda, a vile comment which utterly discredits anyone saying it, let alone a person holding public office.

It should also be noted that the great majority of submissions opposed fluoridation until, as reported in the GES (5 May) over 70 "late" submissions were accepted, including some which were "unsigned, carried exactly the same wording and were in some cases written in the same hand". Further, while this happened either on the 28 or 29 April an earlier press release from Grey District Council ceo Paul Pretorius advised the public to have their submissions in by 26 April. Other locals report that they were advised 20 April as the closing date.

Finally, and perhaps most significantly of all for the general public, is that under Right 7 of the Health and Disability Commissioner's Code of (health) Consumers' Rights, "Services may be provided to a consumer only if that consumer makes an informed choice and gives informed consent". Since fluoridation of water supplies comprises medication i.e. the application of a substance intended to affect bodily functions, fluoridation against any person's wishes contravenes the code. Significantly, Annette King has failed to answer my letter to her on this matter.

People who do not wish to be forcibly medicated via fluoridated water supplies have the right to demand its immediate cessation in areas where it is presently applied while those being lined up for fluoridation should heed the iniquitous processes which have been applied in areas like the Grey District Mr. Tranter said.
