NZMA Applauds Liquor Bill Progress

MEDIA RELEASE TO: All Health Reporters/Chief Executives/Press Officers

FROM: Dr Ross Boswell, NZMA Chairman

DATE: Wednesday 8th June

SUBJECT: NZMA Applauds Liquor Bill Progress

The New Zealand Medical Association (NZMA) has applauded the referral to a select committee of Matt Robson’s Members Bill (The Sale of Liquor (Youth Alcohol Harm Reduction) Amendment Bill). NZMA Chairman Dr Ross Boswell said “This is a golden opportunity for MPs to revisit their earlier decision to lower the drinking age to 18, but importantly they will have the chance to consider advertising, liquor sale controls and other factors related to young people’s consumption of alcohol.”

“The NZMA will be making strong submissions to the select committee on these and other factors related to the abuse of alcohol by young New Zealanders,” said Dr Boswell. “This is a real chance to get it right!”
