New National Manager for CanTeen

New appointment release

New National Manager for CanTeen

CanTeen, the organisation that supports young people living with the effects of cancer, has appointed a new National Manager.

Roger Hill has an extensive marketing and commercial background as well as being personally involved with several not--for--profit organisations and working with young people.

His strategic planning skills and management of teams and multi--million dollar budgets have been utilised by organisations such as Infrastructure Auckland, Yellow Bus Company, and NZI Insurance.

For Auckland Grammar, Roger undertook a strategic feasibility study on future funding and development vision for the school. Other activities involving young people have included coaching and managing sports teams, as well as mentoring over a 20 year period.

Roger has been an active member of Project K, a Development Council Member for Barnados and a member of the executive committee and a prison visitor for P.A.R.S (Prisoner Aid and Rehabilitation Society).

Roger says he is looking forward to making a contribution to an organisation that makes a real difference to young people.

"In particular I am looking forward to working with the Board, which is largely made up of CanTeeners, ranging in age from 18 years to 24 years old," he says.

CanTeen president and Chair of the Board, Karen Miller, says Roger's skills and experience will be invaluable to the organisation as it moves forward.

About CanTeen

CanTeen is a peer support organisation that aims to support, develop and empower young people age 13-24 living with cancer, and their brothers and sisters, by providing a national peer support network and high quality educational and recreational programmes.

Founded on the basis that no young person should ever have to face cancer alone, CanTeen enables young people to share their experiences and feelings with other like-minded young people. It is a place where patients and family/friends of cancer patients can share similar experiences such as their treatment, nausea, loss of hair or limbs and the possible loss of life.

CanTeen helps members re-establish their identity by nurturing self-confidence and demonstrating how to deal with pain and stress. Contact with other young people that have 'been there, done that' gives members the required support to move forward with their lives. This is why CanTeen not only supports the cancer patient but also their brothers and sisters.
