Dig Deep – for your glasses not your money!

Dig Deep – for your glasses not your money!

LIONS RECYCLE FOR SIGHT WEEK – IT’S HERE! (Monday 10 - Sunday 16 October)

It’s time to hunt out never-to-be-worn again old glasses lost in the depths of the bottom drawer.

With a little bit of effort on your part, a significant difference can be made to someone’s life by letting them see clearly for the first time. Donate your old glasses by taking them into an OPSM store or Visique optometrist and they will be recycled and reused in the Pacific Islands.

Any old prescription or sunglasses are valuable to the recycling programme, particularly if the lens’ are in good condition.

The glasses are graded and cleaned at one of two Lions Clubs eyeglass recycling centres and distributed throughout the Pacific Islands by Volunteer Ophthalmic Services Overseas (VOSO) – a New Zealand wide charity that provides eye examinations and surgery to South Pacific nations.

Last year, thousands of glasses were collected during the week, and contributions continue throughout the year, largely based on the awareness generated during Lions Recycle for Sight Week.

Lions Recycle for Sight Week is New Zealand Lions’activity to mark the International Lions World Sight Day (October 13).
