Ill Teenager Flown to Hospital on the Westpac Rescue
Helicopter
The Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter
transferred a sick teenager from the Marlborough Sounds
early this morning.
A 14-year-old female, attending a school camp, had been suffering from abdominal pains since the early hours of the morning.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard was asked to respond around 5am. The camp was situated in Titirangi Bay, about 5 hours drive from Blenheim.
"The conditions this morning were perfect for the flight across Cook Strait," said Life Flight crew Dean Voelkerling. "By early morning, the staff at the camp realised the girl was not improving and needed medical attention," he said.
The girl was flown by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Wairau Hospital and was in a moderate condition.
