“Senior Doctor Union Membership Continues To Grow”
“Union membership of senior doctors continues to grow,” said Mr Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, today. Mr Powell was commenting on the union’s annual membership return (31 March) of 2,738.
“Over the last 12 months senior doctor membership has grown by a further 4.4% (an increase of 164). Over the past seven years our membership has increased by as much as 56%.”
“Our membership in district health boards is now a massive 92.8%. This represents a powerful asset and resource for those who wish to understand how the health system works and how it can be improved.”
“A government or district health board that ignores the advice of an organisation with this level of membership and with this pattern of growth is a very foolish government or district health board,” concluded Mr Powell.
