Brain Injury Awareness Week 11- 17 June 2006

Brain Injury Awareness Week 11- 17 June 2006

90 New Zealanders Receive A Brain Injury Every Day

Brain Injury Awareness Week this year will be held from Monday 11 until Sunday 17 June throughout New Zealand.

The Brain Injury Association of New Zealand wants everyone to be aware of the staggering prevalence of this "invisible epidemic" which disrupts the lives of tens of thousands of New Zealanders and their families every year.

Please diarise these dates and consider some coverage of brain injury. You will find there is a wealth of story opportunities. To assist:

- the BIANZ will send you a news release and other information material.
- a prominent sportsperson will speak out for the first time about his frightening experience with brain injury and urge others to seek treatment rather than ignoring such injuries
- your regional Brain Injury Association can supply information about local Awareness Week events
- regional associations will also be able to suggest local story leads and offer interviewees for personalised stories about local people and families.
