District Health Board on power outage

Updated 3.45pm
June 12

Statement from Auckland District Health Board on power outage

Power is now back on at Auckland City Hospital and Greenlane Clinical Centre and it will be mostly business as usual at both sites tomorrow.

Today’s power outage forced the cancellation of all non urgent surgery and some appointments.

All appointments cancelled today will be rescheduled but the timing will depend on the junior doctors strike which is due to start at 7am on Thursday June 15.

Some elective surgery tomorrow has been postponed due to today’s crisis, the upcoming strike and the ADHB’s need to provide safe care to acute and emergency patients.

Because we are unable to provide a guaranteed date for rescheduling of postponed appointments, affected patients will be contacted with a rescheduled time.

During the power outage the emergency department had to turn away approximately 10 patients, after they were triaged and classified as non urgent.

The emergency department is now operating as normal.

For all non urgent illnesses and injuries people should see their GP or nearest accident and medical clinic.

Vector worked with the ADHB incident management team to restore power to Auckland City Hospital and Starship as a priority.

All patients were safe and well cared for during the power emergency as the hospital was able to rely on back up generators.

We would like to thank staff, patients and their families for co-operating with us during this critical period.
