All the information young people need – in their pocket

New wallet-size cards combining information about local services and artwork done by young people are being launched this month.

Y-06 Youth Cards have been developed by Toi Te Ora – Public Health and Rotorua District Council to provide useful, local information, in a “funky, cool, keep-able” way.

Research shows young people who feel connected to their community are more likely to have lives that lead to healthy outcomes, according to Toi Te Ora - Public Health promoter Linda Johnston.

“The card ensures young people are aware of the relevant community services available to them and helps guide them to those with a handy map,” she says.

Toi Te Ora – Public Health promoters and Rotorua District Council representatives are visiting high schools, training institutions and health services catering for young people such as Da Bomb Shelter, to introduce and distribute the card.

“To make sure young people hang on to the card, sponsors have agreed to provide discounts to users,” she says. “Previous evaluation has shown the card is helpful to youth, so we anticipate this year’s Y-06 Youth Card will also be a success.”
