Submissions to prevent and control diabetes call
PRESS RELEASE
Call for small grant submissions to prevent
and control diabetes
Friday 25 August 2006, SPC Headquarters, Noumea, New Caledonia – The Western Pacific Declaration on Diabetes (WPDD) – a strategic alliance created to address the crippling and increasing burden of diabetes among the peoples of the Western Pacific region – is calling for submissions for its small grant scheme.
“Although the grant is only US$1000 and may seem very little, I urge our partners, including government bodies, recognised NGOs and all other member associations, to apply to the WPDD small grant scheme,” says Dr Viliami Puloka, SPC Lifestyle Health Adviser.
“This seed money may help in the implementation of projects and activities that can benefit the health and well-being of the local population in areas related to prevention and control of diabetes.”
Projects should focus on the promotion of a healthy lifestyle to prevent non-communicable diseases, with a particular focus on the prevention and control of diabetes at community level. The scheme encourages community participation, advocacy and empowerment.
All applications will be reviewed at the end of September 2006, and the results will be announced during the 19th World Diabetes Congress in Cape Town (2–7 December 2006).
Proposals should be faxed or posted to:
