Teenager injured after falling on bon fire

The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the Southern Wairarapa to assist a teenager who had fallen on a bon fire last night.

The teen was part of a large group of teenagers having a party and bon fire along Putangiria Stream, which is along the road to Ngawi on the South Coast.

The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard responded to the call at about 9:30 pm and was able to land near the scene.

Upon landing the crew found a 16 year old Petone boy who was suffering from severe burns to one of his hands.
The boy was transported to the Avalon Studio helipad and then transferred to Hutt Hospital Emergency Department by Wellington Free Ambulance.

His burns are not believed to be life threatening.
