Power cut to prepare for CT scanner a success
A planned four-hour power cut to Whakatane Hospital this morning has prepared for the new CT Scanner to be installed.
The power cut also allowed electrical maintenance to be undertaken.
The power was cut to Whakatane Hospital buildings from 2.00am until 6.00am today, during which a generator was used to ensure that the Emergency Department was supplied power throughout the cut to other areas of the hospital.
Staff and patients were briefed about the power cut prior to the event.
The CT Scanner is due for delivery on 11 December, and will be commissioned on 15 January and is expected to be up and running immediately following commissioning, as Whakatane Radiology staff have already received training in the new technology as a result of regular training sessions at Tauranga Hospital Radiology Department this year.
