Statement: Feilding air rifle accident

Wednesday, 3 January 2007,

3 January 2007

The family of the 13-year-old Feilding boy injured in an air rifle accident would like to release the following statement:

"We would like to extend our thanks to all those who have supported us during this very difficult time.

"This was a tragic accident and we are now concentrating our energies on our son and his immediate needs.

"He has undergone surgery to relieve pressure in his head, but we are taking one day at a time. He is a fighter and is not going to give up, he's so tough.

"We will continue to stay by his side, talking to him, holding his hand and letting him know that we are here for him.

"This is a tragedy and there is no-one to blame. It's just boys being boys. Our hearts go out to the other family.

"This event has been extremely distressing for everyone involved and we ask that our privacy please be respected."

The family has asked that their names not be released.
