“DHB Health Bosses Hypocritical Over Miserly Salary Increases”
“District health board bosses are being hypocritical over salary increases for their staff,” said Mr Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, today. Mr Powell was responding to the DHBs defence of their position of only being prepared to offer salary increases to radiation therapists and other health staff less than the rate of inflation.
“In the two years from 2002-03 to 2004-05 DHBs increased the average salary of their chief executives by $35,667 from $263,333 to $299,000. This massive increase of over 13% in this two year period well exceeded the rate of inflation (4% in the first year and 9% in the second).”
“It is amazing how the highest paid group employed by DHBs can attempt to limit salary increases to less than the cost of living to their lower paid staff but defend large increases well above inflation for them.”
“There are no prizes for guessing the double-standard in this blatant hypocrisy,” concluded Mr Powell.
