DHB Welcomes returning laboratory workers

DHB Welcomes returning laboratory workers

Tuesday 22nd May, 2007

West Coast District Health Board Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Hague, today welcomed the announcement by the NZ medical Laboratory Workers Union that it was cancelling the notices of industrial action that it had issued for the two weeks beginning 21st and 28th May.

The cancellation has the immediate effect of lifting the suspensions that West Coast DHB had applied to striking workers, meaning that they would be able to return to work immediately.

Mr. Hague said:

“We absolutely respect and value the experience and skill of the workers who have been on strike, and we respect their right to take industrial action. “

“We are really pleased that they will be returning to undertake full duties in the laboratory and look forward to this industrial dispute being settled as soon as possible.”

Mr. Hague said that the DHB would immediately begin considering reinstatement of services that had been postponed or otherwise affected by the strike, so that the effect of the strike on patients was absolutely minimised.
