CDHB Media Statement

CDHB Media Statement

We, the undersigned, wish to advise the people of Canterbury that clinicians and managers from Canterbury DHB are working collaboratively to address issues in Christchurch Hospital’s Emergency Department.

An article that appeared on page three of today’s The Press implied that there was disharmony between CDHB management and clinicians over tackling these issues. The opposite is in fact the case and all parties have been and will continue to vigorously work towards the following objective:

To restore the reputation of Christchurch Hospital’s Emergency Department to one of excellence, by continuing to provide a high standard of clinical care, improving patient flow, reducing waiting times and resolving overcrowding.

A team approach to Rejuvenating the Emergency Department (RED) was initiated by Emergency Department staff, with the assistance of the General Manager of Christchurch Hospital. It has been agreed by all parties that RED will be clinician led and CDHB supported. A Project Manager will be appointed to ensure progress is achieved.

Work has already started on addressing some issues in the Emergency Department including advertising for and obtaining more staff.
