Service workers' strikes lifted
Service workers have lifted a week of strike notices for all DHBs and contractors.
DHB spokesperson, Craig Climo, CEO of South Canterbury DHB, says strikes at all hospitals around the country were due to start at midnight on Sunday but have now been withdrawn following two days of talks.
"Our offer will give a range of pay increases over three years - the highest being more than 25% going immediately to those on the lowest rates.
"DHBs appreciate the financial pressures on Service Workers and that's been reflected in our offer. Lifting the strike notices is a sign of good faith that will allow us to finalise the details of the $18 million dollar package."
Mr Climo says the deal is in three parts:
* Pay increases over 25% for the lowest paid
* A mechanism guaranteeing workers of DHB contractors the same pay rises
* An agreement for a national MECA covering all DHBs
"We're pleased the strike notices have been lifted and look forward to finalising the details of a settlement as soon as possible." says Mr Climo.
