CDHB statement in relation to Saturday's Press advertisement

Statement from the Canterbury District Health Board

A transparent independent review of Dean Carroll’s death, commissioned by the CDHB in association with the Carroll family, found that there was no evidence of any negligence on the part of the nursing and medical staff that contributed to the sad and untimely death of Dean Carroll. Dean died of a rare condition that is notoriously hard to diagnose and that progressed in an uncharacteristic way. Emergency Department staff have been deeply distressed by what happened. Ten recommendations were made by the review panel to help improve patient care and flow through Christchurch Hospital’s Emergency Department. The public will be kept up-to-date with improvements planned for the ED.
