ACC Welcomes Findings of Physiotherapy Review
ACC today welcomed the draft findings of the Government’s Review of the Way in which Physiotherapy Services are Funded and Accredited by ACC.
“Physiotherapy is a vital part of the rehabilitation framework that ACC provides to people who have been injured and we are committed to improving our relationships with the sector”, said Dr Kevin Morris, Director of Clinical Services at ACC.
Some of the report’s draft findings are matters for ACC, such as finding ways to improve communication with physiotherapists, while others are matters for the Government, e.g. the broader financial issues.
“Although we need time to consider the full report, and note that the findings are still draft, it is already clear that some constructive ideas are being suggested in the areas for which ACC is responsible. We had already begun to consider our options for addressing those areas and will absolutely feed the Reviewers comments into that work.”
“This is not a court case where one side wins and the other loses. It is a collaborative process where everyone contributes in an effort to improve the services available, and thereby get better outcomes for people who are hurt. That is the ultimate goal and ACC will continue to work constructively with the Reviewer to that end”, Dr Morris added.
The draft report also includes some comments on the operation of ACC’s fraud team and those comments will be considered in the context of ACC broader review of that team.
Comments on the draft report are due with the Reviewer by late August and the final report will be presented to the Government in September.
