Conference Examines Innovation in Aged Care

Conference Turns Spotlight On Innovation in Aged Care

The Healthcare Providers NZ 2007 conference will be opened by the Leader of NZ First, the Rt Hon Winston Peters, in Rotorua on Monday 3 September at 1:30pm. The theme of the conference, 'Celebrating Aged Care", focuses on innovation in aged residential care.

The conference brings together hundreds of providers from across the entire aged residential care sector, as well as policy makers, lobbyists and researchers working in the field of aged care.

Key speakers include:

Winston Peters, leader of the New Zealand First party, who will open the conference and outline his key areas of focus in the aged residential sector;

John Key, leader of the National Party, who will address the conference to lay out some of the challenges ahead for aged care and National's approach to addressing them; and

Pete Hodgson, who will participate in a political panel and address specific questions on the aged care sector.

The conference will also include a showcase of the finalists of the inaugural innovation awards for the sector, which highlight innovations in four categories:

Community Connections: This award recognizes exceptional effort in interacting with a facilities community in order to maintain and improve resident's community connections.

Training and Staff Development: This award recognizes exceptional training and staff development by organizations (either facilities, or groups) within the aged care sector.

Innovative delivery: This award recognizes exceptional effort by organizations and facilities to enhance the excellence of the care they deliver to residents.

Built and Grown Environment: This award will recognize exceptional design, construction or changes to a facility to create a positive environment for residents and staff.

The finalists in the awards show how creative and innovative operators are in finding ways to improve the quality of life of the elderly, both in residential care settings and in their wider communities. Winners of the awards will be announced at the gala conference dinner on Tuesday 4th September.
