ACC Consults on 2008/09 levy rates

ACC Consults on 2008/09 levy rates

The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) is seeking submissions on its proposed levy rates for 2008/09.

“ACC levies vary from year to year, depending on a number of factors, the most important being how much ACC needs to cover the lifetime cost of claims, both new and existing. Other factors include the nature of the business concerned (i.e. how risky it is), the type of work a worker does or the type of vehicle a motorist uses,” said ACC General Manager, Levy and Scheme Management, Dr Keith McLea.

He said that while levy rates were adjusted every year, ACC tried to keep rates as stable as possible. Levy rates are set in four stages:
1. ACC publishes the proposed rates and invites submissions
2. Interested parties have six weeks to make a submission
3. ACC considers the feedback and finalises its recommendations to the Minister
4. The Minister decides on the final levy rates that ACC will charge.

The consultation period runs until 5pm on 10 October 2007.

“While this process will be of most direct interest to levy payers (employers, employees, self-employed people, motorists) the general public is also welcome to have a say on proposed levy rates,” Dr McLea said.

Interested parties should visit www.acc.co.nz/levyconsultation to see the relevant documents and process. You can also request a hard copy of the documents by emailing consultation@acc.co.nz or calling 0800 ACC RATES (0800 222 7283).
