West Coast Shellfish Warning Lifted

The Health Protection Units of Taranaki, MidCentral and Waikato District Health Boards today lifted a public health warning against collecting or consuming shellfish along a section of the west coast.

The area affected is from the Kawhia Harbour entrance south to North Mole in Wanganui.

Regular testing of shellfish will continue to ensure that any increases in toxin levels are detected promptly.

For more information about the safety of shellfish, people can contact a Health Protection Officer toll free on 0800 800 977, from 8am - 5pm, or after hours, the on-call Health Protection Officer on mobile 021 999 521.
