HBDHB management team relieved uncertainty over governance resolved

Acting chief executive of Hawke’s Bay District Health Board, Dr Win Bennett, said the DHB could plan ahead with certainty now the issue of governance had been resolved.

“The management team look forward to working alongside the commissioner, Sir John Anderson, and putting all their energies into improving the health of our population and our service delivery,” Dr Bennett said.

“I would, however, like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the commitment of the Board and recognise the time and effort the board members have put into DHB business. Over the past eight years the workload has been significant.

Dr Bennett said the future of the DHB’s advisory committees was yet to be determined, pending discussions with the commissioner.

“I’m also aware some people have expressed concerns that having a commissioner govern the DHB would result in the loss of a local ‘voice’. As a DHB we are legally bound to consult on any significant service changes, so Hawke’s Bay people will continue to have a say in the health services we provide.

Dr Bennett said Chris Clarke would be back to work on Monday. “I know Chris is looking forward to the new way of working, and being able to devote more time and energy into activities that will make a positive difference,” Win Bennett said.
