Progress made on Funding Shortfall

MEDIA RELEASE

26 March 2008

Progress made on Funding Shortfall for Hospital Food Service, Cleaning and Orderly Staff

Discussions today between representatives of the District Health Boards and Spotless Services have been progressive and productive says hospital sector contractors Spotless Services.

Spotless has been working to resolve the funding impasse with DHBs for some months, however, these discussions were urgently arranged following the announcement last week by the Service and Food Workers Union of two weeks’ notice to strike by their staff working for Spotless in the public health sector.

Spotless has repeatedly said that it would pay its staff immediately once Spotless itself had received the full funding from the DHBs. Spotless has still not received the full payment as agreed.

Spotless spokesperson Peter Jennings said that Spotless would be making no further comment at this time but both parties were actively pursuing a solution.
