Wellington/Central Districts Give it up for Camp Quality National Awareness Week

Over $11,000 was raised in Wellington and the Central Districts during the Camp Quality National Awareness Week appeal last month.

Funds raised in the region greatly contributed to the national total of $55,000. Proceeds will assist Camp Quality continue to provide its support programmes for children living with cancer and their families.

The bulk of the funds was raised by local Lions Clubs - the organisation’s key partners in the programme – which held fundraising events including fun walks, barbecues and an evening of opera.

This was the first time the not for profit organisation attempted a national fundraising initiative and Camp Quality Chairman Jim Grierson says he was encouraged by the results.

“We would like to say a big thank you to everyone in Wellington and the Central Districts who was involved in running the events, the local Lions Clubs who made donations and all those who gave,” he says.

Camp Quality’s inaugural national awareness week was made all the more special with former league legend Stacey Jones tackling the role of ambassador.

“It’s great to have Stacey on board, it’s been a thrill for the children,” says Mr Grierson. “Stacey has adopted the role with the same dedication he has demonstrated in his very successful rugby league career.”

Mr Grierson says “Each year at a cost of more than $500,000 we deliver, through the commitment of our 500 volunteers and willing helpers, fun programmes for children living with cancer. There is nothing more humbling than seeing the great big smiles on their faces at our various activities.”
