Feedback on renal services called for by HBDHB

As demand for services of the Hawke’s Bay’s renal unit increases the District Health Board is calling for feedback from the public on how best to provide a sustainable service.

Chronic disease coordinator Dianne Keip said there were currently 84 patients who used the renal dialysis services either at home or by coming into the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Soldiers’ Memorial for treatment.

There were also a large number of patients that used the unit’s services to manage a variety of renal care conditions that didn’t yet require dialysis, she said.

Renal physician Dr Drew Henderson said demand for the renal unit’s service and dialysis was expected to steadily grow, and the health board wanted to be able to meet that demand and also be able to deliver a sustainable service that patients were happy with.
