St Margaret’s goes pink for a week
St Margaret’s goes pink for a week
Monday 4 August – Sunday 10 August
CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday 3 August, 2008 - St Margaret’s is going pink this week to support the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.
The annual St Margaret’s College philanthropy week promotes the act of giving. This year, the girls have chosen to support the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation and this has been reflected in the theme they came up with – “The Ultimate Pink Week”.
“The Ultimate Pink Week” programme runs from Monday August 4 to Sunday 10 August. It has been organized by the Year 13 student Development Committee with support and mentoring from the school Development office.
Activities are scheduled throughout the week to raise awareness of breast cancer and to raise funds. They include a pink balloon day, an aerial photograph of the whole school forming the breast cancer logo, pink food, a guest speaker from the foundation and the finale, an “Ultimate Pink Day Out” on the last day of the pink week.
The Ultimate Pink Week” has also provided girls with an opportunity to learn about what it takes to put together a fundraising and awareness initiative. Working closely with the business community and under the guidance of the school’s development office they have also acquired skills in event management and project management.
The biggest lesson of all will be to teach the school and the wider community about the benefits of philanthropy, and how we can all help to make a difference to those that need our help.
Funds raised during “The Ultimate Pink Week” will go to the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.
