Canine Clean Up!
Embracing a fresh approach to keep New Zealand beautiful Clean Up New Zealand Week (September 5 – 12) will see hardworking Toi Te Ora - Public Health staff embarking on a clean up with a difference.
Not only will Toi Te Ora - Public Health (Toi Te Ora) staff be doing their bit by providing the lakefront at Hannah’s Bay a spring clean, but they’re also taking several SPCA dogs for a leisurely run in the process.
The idea was sparked by Toi Te Ora’s new ‘Sustainability Team’ – set up to both direct and facilitate sustainability related activities in-house. Supporting Clean Up New Zealand Week seemed a great opportunity to get involved, be useful and to make a difference.
The group of six Toi Te Ora health promoters plan to take a number of SPCA dogs to the Hannah’s Bay dog exercise area for a walk, coupled with a litter collection next Thursday afternoon, 11 September. The team are well-prepared, with collection sacks and gloves, and even ‘doggy doo bags’, which are all available free from Rotorua District Council (RDC).
If you would like to get a team together, and take part in the Clean Up New Zealand Week, contact Christine Findon, Keep Rotorua Beautiful Co-ordinator at RDC on 07 348 4199. Similarly, if you would like to support the SPCA by exercising their dogs, or volunteering in any way, contact Nicola Martin, General Manager, or Lisa Reedy, Animal Manager on 07 349 2955.
