Child Cancer Foundation targets 1500 heads for
funrazor 2008
League star Steve Price has fought many
battles on the field during his 14 year rugby league career,
but this December he will be putting his weight behind
another battle when he shaves his head to support brave kids
who have lost their hair in the fight against cancer.˙
The Child Cancer Foundation is calling for other brave New Zealanders to get behind funrazor, the nationwide event where people shave their hair in support of children with cancer.
On Thursday 4 December 2008 Kiwis all over the country can help children undergoing cancer treatment by losing their locks at one of 22 funrazor shaving stations throughout New Zealand.
The annual event, which originated in Christchurch in 2003, is now a major national event which sees individuals, families, businesses and entire communities embrace the spirit of funrazor. Last year alone, funrazor saw 670 heads shaved and more than half a million dollars donated.
In 2008 the Child Cancer Foundation is challenging Kiwis to double the amount of locks lopped last year with a target of 1500 heads in a bid to raise $750,000.
“With 4.1 million heads in New Zealand we think our target is realistic!” says Neil Porteous, Child Cancer Foundation CEO.˙ “Registrations are now open at www.funrazor.org.nz and we’re asking New Zealanders to take up the challenge and help us make this the most successful funrazor to date.”
All money raised by funrazor goes directly to fund ongoing Child Cancer Foundation support programmes to help children and families affected by childhood cancer throughout the country.
“By shaving your lid for a brave kid, not only are you showing support for children undergoing treatment, you are enabling us to continue to provide essential services to children and families affected by childhood cancer,” he says.
To sign up for funrazor please visit www.funrazor.org.nz or phone 0508 FUNRAZOR to register your own funrazor event.
