Fresh Future Appeal For Sick Kids
Today Peter Smith, Managing Director of Progressive Enterprises presented Wellington Children’s Hospital with a cheque for $125,000
The nationwide Appeal is run by the Fresh Future Charitable Trust, formed by the staff of Countdown, Woolworths, Foodtown, SuperValue and Fresh Choice supermarkets and Dick Smith Electronic stores.
Staff raised the funds for the second year to help sick kids at children’s hospitals. This year, ten hospitals were supported by the Appeal, up from five last year.
Bill Day, Chair of the Wellington Hospitals & Health Foundation said that this was again a truly magic day. “The funds raised will be put to very good use in the new children’s hospital at Wellington. These funds will assist with the new Fresh Future Acute Assessment Unit to be built in the new children’s hospital,” he said.
Ken Whelan, CEO of Capital & Coast District Health Board, praised all the supermarket staff and their customers. “The efforts of so many people are great. They are making a difference in health and in children’s hospitals. We are very, very appreciative,” he said.
Peter Smith said, “We’re all keen to support kiwi kids in hospitals, their parents and the wonderful medical professionals who treat them. This is community fundraising at its best.”
