CDHB Accepts Donation of New Christchurch Hospital Family Room

Canterbury District Health Board has given approval to include a Ronald McDonald Family Room at Christchurch Hospital, which will support families of children who are receiving treatment.

The facility, which will be funded by the RMH South Island Trust, is an extension of the Ronald McDonald House programme which already provides free accommodation to families of sick children from outside Christchurch. Family Rooms are already available in Auckland’s Starship Hospital and Wellington Hospital.

CDHB chair Alister James said, “The Board is very grateful for the generosity of the Trust. The provision of a family room is something that we know will be greatly appreciated by Canterbury families.”

RMH South Island Trust Chair Stuart Leck is pleased that the Trust will be able to provide its services to all families needing hospital care in Christchurch. “When your child is in hospital, you want to be with them at all times. A Ronald McDonald Family Room is a haven within the hospital for families of children undergoing treatment.

The Family Room will enable families to have some time out away from the bed side as well as allow the clinicians a better work space. We are delighted to be able to offer our services to Christchurch and Canterbury families who are already supporters of Ronald McDonald House South Island.”
