Changes to bus fare structure from next month

Changes to bus fare structure from next month

A simpler fare structure on Tauranga buses will come into effect when the new Tauranga urban bus contract begins operating at the end of June, says Environment Bay of Plenty Transport Committee Chairman Andrew von Dadelszen.

A single adult cash fare of $2.50 will apply on all City routes excluding Papamoa East to the City. A single adult cash fare of $3.00 will apply on the Papamoa East to City service for passengers boarding between Karewa Parade and the intersection of Papamoa Beach and Parton Roads.

All current discounts will remain including 20 percent for SmartCard holders, 40 percent for concessionary groups and the free 60 minute transfer option.

“A simpler fare structure will not only benefit our existing passengers but will hopefully persuade more people to take advantage of the many benefits of public transport,” Councillor von Dadelszen said.

Current concessions include a 40 percent discount for:

• Children aged 5 to 15 years
• Secondary school students with valid student ID
• Tertiary students with valid student ID
• Senior citizens travelling at peak times with a valid SuperGold Card

Currently fares are based on four fare zones and range from $1.50 to $3.00.

The changes come into effect on June 29 this year.
