St John wants everyone to be an Everyday Hero
To assist more New Zealanders to improve their first aid skills St John has developed and launched a new ‘edutainment’ product, called The Everyday Hero.
The Everyday Hero is an innovative online space where anyone can test their first aid knowledge and skills in various scenarios. It is the first edutainment programme in New Zealand that is focused on first aid.
The Everyday Hero is found at www.everydayhero.org.nz and will be promoted in online communities such as YouTube and MySpace. Users are encouraged to share it with family and friends.
St John Commercial Director Gerry Fitzgerald says, “St John wants to help members of the public to have the skills and confidence to make a real difference on the scene when someone needs urgent medical assistance. The Everyday Hero is a way we can encourage the public, using a method that is easily accessible to many people.”
Gerry encourages everyone to go and have a look at the website, “Anyone can visit The Everyday Hero and test their skills against some very real everyday scenarios. It doesn’t take long to complete and is an informative and entertaining activity.”
The Everyday Hero was officially launched by St John Chief Executive Jaimes Wood in Auckland on Thursday, 28 May 2009.
The development of The Everyday Hero has been led by St John, with financial support provided by the Lottery Grants Board.
First aid courses remain important. St John offers a wide range of first aid training courses to the public in many locations across New Zealand. Visit www.stjohn.org.nz/training for more information about St John first aid courses.
