Diesel Spill at Christchurch Women’s Hospital
[3/12/2009]
A suspected mechanical fault in an emergency generator caused a diesel spill in two plant room areas at Christchurch Women’s Hospital this afternoon.
The sixth and seventh floors of the hospital, which house the generator, have been sealed off and there is minimal damage to the area. Patients and staff did not have to be evacuated from the building. Canterbury District Health Board maintenance and engineering staff and New Zealand Fire Service staff are currently cleaning the area where the diesel spilled.
General Manager Women’s and Children’s Health Pauline Clark said the incident would be investigated to determine the exact cause of the diesel spill.
