Burwood Birthing Unit Reopens
A Burwood Hospital’s Birthing Unit will reopen on Monday (January 25) after it was closed for two weeks so that the bathrooms could be upgraded. The closure of the unit during the renovations meant that they could be completed quickly and without interruptions to women or the contractors. Last redecorated over 17 years ago, the improvements cost around $17,000, and included non-slip vinyl flooring and the replacement of walls to make the showers safer and easier to clean, said Pam Truscott, Charge Midwife at the Burwood Birthing Unit.
“We will reopen the Birthing Unit at 8am on Monday and we are looking forward to having our first women arrive to use our new and improved bathroom facilities,” she said. All Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs) were informed about the temporary closure and pregnant women who may have been thinking of giving birth at Burwood had the option to go to Rangiora, St George’s, Lincoln or Christchurch Women’s Hospitals. Burwood Birthing Unit will be opened on Monday (25 January) with a blessing at 9am.
