Get ready for an (un)healthy dose of Joe Bennett

Amongst the serious business on the agenda at this year’s New Zealand Rural General Practice conference, author, columnist, wit and raconteur Joe Bennett will be lurking ready to inject a healthy dose of humour into proceedings.
He is not a doctor. He will address matters of topical interest that are unlikely to be of any practical use to doctors, rural or otherwise, and that may include, but are by no means limited to, the infantilisation of society, how to smoke on aeroplanes, the rise of asthma, the demonisation of fat, jogging, golf, television chefs, Facebook and other crimes against humanity. Joe is rarely ill.

Born in Southern England, ostensibly educated at Cambridge, Joe Bennett taught English in various safe countries, came to New Zealand for a year in 1987 and is still here. In 1998 he gave up teaching for writing, became a newspaper columnist and has since published about 20 books.

Joe lives in Christchurch with his dog Blue.

Joe will be on stage on Saturday, March 13 at 3pm leading his session entitled “Wired”.
