Joint appointment for Wairarapa and Hutt Valley DHB’s.
Hutt Valley and Wairarapa DHB’s are working in partnership to share expertise and improve efficiency. In recent weeks, they have begun to roll out a shared payroll function, and today they announced the shared appointment of a Director of Allied Health.
Russell Simpson, currently Director of Allied Health for Hutt Valley DHB will take up the same role in Wairarapa DHB for one day a week, commencing 1st July
“We are in the process of restructuring management roles to support further clinical leadership opportunities,” said Tracey Adamson, Wairarapa DHB CEO. “This opportunity arose to join in partnership with Hutt Valley DHB to improve and strengthen the professional leadership to allied and technical staff at Wairarapa DHB. The allied and technical team leaders and the Senior Leadership Team all support this approach. We see the advantages of the joint role in giving greater support to our staff, and ultimately improving the care we provide to our patients and clients.”

Russell was a Physiologist in Chronic
Pain at Hutt Hospital before taking up a Scholarship with
the Wellington School of Medicine and completing a Masters
in Health Science (Rehabilitation).He returned to HVDHB in
2005, and was appointed as the Clinical Leader of the
Chronic Pain Service in 2007. He has a longterm interest
in multi-service projects, and recently designed new
pre-operative assessment clinics and the new clinical
pathway for planned acute surgery at HVDHB.
Russell also represents Allied Health on a number of regional and national groups, advocating for a collaborative partnership between all professions to ensure the best possible delivery of healthcare to the population. In addition to his two Directorship roles, he will continue to work in a clinical capacity with the Pain Management Service at Hutt Hospital one day per week.
