Men’s Health In Spotlight At Fieldays
Health statistics for men are not that impressive – yet many will still put off seeing their doctor even when they are sick.
To address this, the Waikato/Bay of Plenty’s exhibit at this year’s Fieldays is once again encouraging men to see their GP if they think something isn’t right, and focusing on the health issues relevant to men, particularly skin, lung and prostate cancer.
The Society has produced a number of new men’s health resources which will be displayed and distributed at the event.
Health promotion manager Melanie Desmarais says the Fieldays offers a unique opportunity to approach men, an often hard to reach demographic, in an informal and interactive environment.
“With so many people at the Fieldays it’s a wonderful place to educate men and their families about cancer in a relaxed, friendly and interactive environment.”
Cancer Society staff and volunteers will be on hand to talk about any health issues men are concerned about, and the interactive BodyWorks Quiz will once again provide an interactive way to learn about how to live a healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of many cancers.
“The Fieldays coincides with International Men’s Health Week, June 14-20, so it’s an ideal time to get men thinking about issues that affect them.”
The Cancer Society’s exhibit will be in the Rural Living Pavillion, sites 119-120.
