Give Blind Week 120 minutes for 120 years

Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind
Media release

19 August 2010

Give just 120 minutes during Blind Week to celebrate 120 years!

Blind Week is coming up, and this year it’s an extra special time as the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind (RNZFB) is celebrating 120 years of service!

Running from Tuesday 26 October to Monday 1 November this year, the annual Blind Week Appeal helps to raise the funds needed to make a difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted Kiwis.

But help is essential, from all corners of the country

Thousands of volunteers are needed to hold buckets during the Appeal, and even just two hours of a volunteer’s time would make a big difference and help RNZFB achieve the appeal target of $1 million.

“The more volunteer collectors we have out on the street this Blind Week, the better our chances are of raising the crucial funds we need to continue providing our 11,700 clients with the services they rely on to do the everyday things the rest of us take for granted.” Alison Wheatley, Executive Director - Marketing & Fundraising.

To volunteer as a collector, please call free on 0800 120 BLIND (0800 120 254) or register online at www.blindweek.org.nz

The minimum number of volunteers needed for each area is:
Auckland 1,600
Waikato 530
Bay of Plenty 780
Hawkes Bay 320
Wellington 1,000
Nelson 300
Christchurch 1,500
Dunedin 1,600
