signs agreement with Te Rau Matatini
Health Workforce New Zealand and Te Rau Matatini today signed a Memorandum of Understanding around improving Māori health outcomes.
Te Rau Matatini has been actively engaging with Health Workforce New Zealand since its establishment last year and anticipates this new phase of the relationship to deliver real benefits.
“Health Workforce New Zealand is very pleased to forge an agreement with Te Rau Matatini to enable us to utilise our collective knowledge and expertise to address the needs of the health workforce that service Māori,” says Professor Des Gorman, Executive Chair Health Workforce New Zealand.
The purpose of the agreement is to improve and increase the health workforce delivering to Māori and improve opportunities for Māori to participate in the health workforce.
“We are thrilled with this new agreement with Health Workforce New Zealand. It will allow us to contribute to national workforce planning in a more in-depth and collaborative way that will better serve the needs of the Māori health workforce and will therefore benefit whānau and Māori communities,” says Roma Hippolite, Chair Te Rau Matatini Ltd.
The agreement also provides for coordinated planning around increased participation and the uptake of training and development for those working in health services with Māori and for Māori already working in, or wanting to begin a career in health.
“Te Rau Matatini has been active in delivering Māori health workforce development training and programmes that meet regional and local needs at the same time as contributing to the strategic national Māori health workforce goals,” says Kirsty Maxwell-Crawford, Chief Executive Officer Te Rau Matatini.
