Camp Quality Marking 25 years in the
North with a Picnic and ALL former Campers and
Companions are invited….
The
Auckland/Northland region of Camp Quality is holding a
picnic next Sunday (November 14) to mark the charity’s
25th Anniversary and all former campers, companions,
volunteers and their friends are invited.
Camp Quality is a not-for-profit volunteer organisation dedicated to bringing fun, hope and happiness to children living with cancer. It provides week-long summer camps for youngsters aged 5-16, as well as year long support for the children and their families.
The first New Zealand camp was held in West Auckland in January 1985 and attracted 22 youngsters from throughout New Zealand. Now more than 300 youngsters attend one of five regional summer camps nationwide with more than 700 volunteers, helping to make the camps a safe and fun environment.
John Green, Auckland/Northland Regional Manager, says the picnic is a way to involve and thank all previous campers, companions and volunteers, plus their families and Camp Quality sponsors and friends.
The ‘Picnic in the Park’ will be held at Tahaki Reserve, Mt Eden, from 11am-3pm and Mr Green says entertainment, rides and activities for young and old have been organised. “We just see it as a great way for old and new friends to meet again”, he says.
According to Child Cancer Foundation statistics, about 150 young New Zealanders are diagnosed with cancer each year. Camp Quality passionately believes in the power of fun to help these children and their families overcome the challenges of living with cancer.
Anyone interested in attending the picnic is asked to email campqualityevent@gmail.com or phone/text 021 151 1202.
