Cranford Hospice Reopens Next Week

Cranford Hospice Reopens Next Week

Cranford Hospice will reopen its inpatient services on Tuesday, 30 November.

In a joint statement today, Cranford Chair, Ken Gilligan and Kevin Snee, Chief Executive, Hawke’s Bay District Health Board, said patients will transfer back to Cranford Hospice from Hawke’s Bay Hospital next week.

Dr Snee said it will be a symbolic day for Cranford Hospice, and one which had resulted from a huge commitment and many hours of work from DHB staff, Cranford staff, Governance Board, and Presbyterian Support Services, to ensure its return.

“The return of the inpatient unit to Cranford is a success story for everyone involved to improve and support the way hospice care is delivered in Hawke’s Bay,” he said.

Mr Gilligan said real progress had been made in six months - the hospice now had a new governance model and clinical services were now in place that would alleviate concerns raised in the TAS Report which identified issues associated with patient care and safety.

“We will progressively build up from four beds to a fully functional eight bed inpatient service over the coming year. We are confident Helen Blaxland, the new general manager, will lead Cranford Hospice into a new era where patients, families and the DHB can have every assurance in the care provided,” Mr Gilligan said
