Mothers wanted to attend maternity workshop
Mothers from around Canterbury are being encouraged to register for a maternity workshop to talk about maternity services in the region.
The three-hour workshop is designed to gain input from mothers, particularly those who have recently experienced maternity services in Canterbury, as well as maternity health professionals and other organisations associated with pregnancy and motherhood.
The Canterbury District Health Board (DHB), Director of Midwifery, Women's and Children's Health Christchurch Women's Hospital, Samantha Burke says more than 80 mothers and health professionals had already registered.
“We are very keen for as many mothers from outside Christchurch to attend and we encourage those mums to register as soon as possible as places are limited,” Ms Burke says.
“This is an opportunity for all parents, whānau and health professionals to get together to discuss opportunities to improve care and support for women through the maternity journey.”
The Canterbury DHB plans to ask a series of key questions to find out how mothers feel maternity services could be improved to support them before and during pregnancy, their birth experience and being at home with their baby.
New mum Katie Green says the workshop is a great opportunity for parents to talk about their experiences.
“A lot of new mums want to talk about that stuff and have a say on how they want services shaped,” Katie says.
Mums are particularly interested in how they can find the right Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) and sharing ideas on this would be really useful, she says.
The workshop will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Christchurch Netball Centre from 9am-noon. Morning tea and a crèche will be available.
