Bare your bra in the battle against breast cancer

Bare your bra in the battle against breast cancer

In 2010, an army of nearly 400 participants donned pink clothing and descended upon the Lion Foundation Arena at the Edgar Centre to show their support for the battle against breast cancer in Dunedin’s first Zumba® Fitness Pink Party. The event raised over $3,000 for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).

In 2011, organisers of the charity fundraiser are hoping to eclipse the success of the previous year under the new banner of “Bare Your Bra for Breast Cancer!”.

The “Bare Your Bra” charity fundraiser will be held at the Lion Foundation Arena, Edgar Centre, on Sunday 30th October 2011 at 3pm – 4pm (doors open at 2.30pm). Entry will be by donation (suggested minimum $5), with spot prizes and raffle draws taking place throughout the duration of the event. Once again, all proceeds will be donated to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).

The aim of the event is to encourage participants (make and female alike!) to wear a bra in any fashion imaginable: over their t-shirts; on their head; as a belt; as a garter. Embellished and decorated bras will be welcomed, with sponsored prizes for the most inventive and decorative ideas. Rather than shying away from the reality of breast cancer, the organisers felt it was important to draw attention to the breast area and hence the idea was hatched to spotlight the humble brassiere.

Some publicity events are scheduled in the week leading up to the Event, and details of these will be made available to you upon request. Of particular interest will be a possible ‘flash-crowd’ Zumba® Fitness performance, and various promotional ‘tours’ at several key Dunedin shopping locations.
