Touch, Pause, Moustache!

Touch, Pause, Moustache!

To celebrate Movember, a rugby event of epic proportions is being played at College Rifles this coming Saturday, with old rivals the confident North Island, facing up against the determined South Island, all for the benefit of men’s health.

The inaugural Movember North Island vs South Island Rugby Match will see familiar sporting faces from past and present clash on the turf raising much needed funds for the Cancer Society and Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.

Scott Stevenson has taken coaching responsibility for the North while legendary sports commentator John McBeth leads the South. League players Monty Betham and Wairangi Koopu are changing codes for the day while Matt Watson, broadcaster Jay Reeve and top surfer Maz Quinn are also lacing up their boots for the cause. Ex Black Fern Anna Richards is also rumoured to be planning a run on the paddock, just to show up the boys.

“This is a fantastic celebration of manhood and rugby, but all for an important cause,” says John McBeth. “Too many good men in this country are lost through prostate cancer or the darkness of depression. Movember is all about getting men to wake up to the issues and get themselves a check-up.”

The Movember Inter-Island Match is a festival day where the standard of rugby may be questionable, but the reason is all about a great bunch of people getting together to have some fun and raise awareness for men’s health in New Zealand. Expect to see some Garry Owens, Bruce Robertson hip swingers, lineouts without any lifting and some old school walls from tap penalties.

Friends of Movember: Snickers, Schick, Quiksilver and Bright's will be there with competitions and giveaways, with some Mo-tastic raffle items up for grabs as well. It’s a free event, with donation boxes on site for any cash donations.
