CDHB asks for the return of unused hospital equipment
The Canterbury District Health Board is asking for the return of overdue hospital equipment, to ensure its hospitals are well-stocked over the winter.
Every year thousands of patients are loaned equipment to assist them to recover at home but sometimes people forget to return the item by its due date.
Types of loaned equipment include wheelchairs, crutches, shower stools, commodes, seats and walking frames.
Allied Health Executive Director Stella Ward says a fortnight long amnesty has begun from this week and people are encouraged to return any hospital equipment they have forgotten to return.
“We acknowledge earthquake related matters will have been a big distraction this past 18 months for many people and possibly even a barrier to some being able to return their overdue hospital equipment,” Stella says.
“However, if people can do their best to get the items back to us before winter it is much appreciated. Or call us to let us know the equipment has been lost or can’t be retrieved as a result of the earthquakes.”
There is no penalty for overdue equipment. Collection sites will be at Burwood and The Princes Margaret Hospitals’ main receptions, 33 St Asaph Street, 211 Blenheim Road, Amberly Medical Centre, Rangiora Hospital and Ashburton Hospital.
