Bupa purchase brain injury rehabilitation business
One of New Zealand’s largest aged care providers Bupa Care Services is expanding into brain injury rehabilitation. The national care provider today announced that it had purchased Abano Rehabilitation.
Abano Rehabilitation is a business specialising in rehabilitation of people with post trauma injury, including brain injury. The service offered is predominantly residential and focuses on restorative care and support. This fits well with Bupa’s aged care business and will provide learning and experience that is transferable to the rehabilitation of older people - an area increasingly being seen as important in Aged Care.
“We are constantly looking for opportunities to grow and Abano compliments our existing business,” advised CEO Dwayne Crombie, “We are looking forward to working with the existing management team and staff.”
The services are provided in the North Island with both residential and community services are provided. There are nine residential facilities with 112 available beds located in Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Gisborne, Hastings and Palmerston North.
Bupa currently operates 45 care homes nationwide, offering a combination of rest home and hospital level care serving over 3000 residents. They also operate 16 retirement villages nationwide comprising of 800 units and apartments. In addition to care and lifestyle living, Bupa provide personal medical alarms to over 11,500 New Zealanders living in the community.
