congratulates Queen’s Birthday honours
recipients
The Royal New Zealand
College of General Practitioners congratulates its Patron,
two GPs and a rugby legend who has raised awareness of
mental health for receiving Queen’s Birthday
Honours.
“We are pleased our Patron, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, has been admitted to the Order of New Zealand for his services to New Zealand to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee,” says College president Dr Harry Pert.
“He became the first Honorary Fellow of the College at a ceremony in Government House when he visited New Zealand in 1981 and gave the College its Royal title, and was also here when the College was founded in 1974.
“We also congratulate Napier GP and College member Dr Peter Foley who was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to health and College Fellow Dr Robert Morrison of Cambridge. He was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to medicine and the community.
“GPs receiving honours such as these is a reflection of the vital part they play in New Zealand communities and the valuable contribution they make not only to health but to New Zealand society at large.
“It is also very gratifying to see Sir John Kirwan honoured not only for his services to rugby but also for his work raising awareness of depression. The College honoured Sir John with the Meritorious Service Medal in 2009 for his outstanding contribution to mental health.”
