Kidsline Badge Design Winners Announced

MEDIA RELEASE 1 August 2012

Kidsline Badge Design Winners Announced

Four colourful designs have been chosen as winners in the inaugural Kidsline Great Big Badge Design Competition.

Fashion Designer for WORLD Denise L’Estrange-Corbet along with Kidsline mentors and representatives from HP and GrabOne were challenged to pick just four designs from thousands of entries submitted by young Kiwis around New Zealand.

The winning designs will now be turned into badges and sold in Farmers department stores as a Kidsline fundraising initiative.

The winners are:

~ Jordyn MacDonald (13) of Wanaka (category: Friendship)

~ Loren Ford (9) of Wainuiomata, Lower Hutt (category: It Helps to Talk)

~ Maya Kalbarczyk (12) of Takapuna, Auckland (category: Feelings Are OK)

~ Natasha Tate (12) of Beachlands, Auckland (category: I’m Me and I’m Awesome)

Badges by GrabOne and L’Estrange-Corbet will also feature alongside the winning designs.

The Kidsline Great Big Badge Design Competition was created to encourage young Kiwis to openly share and talk about their feelings, and to communicate that having feelings of any kind is okay.

Head Judge, L’Estrange-Corbet was delighted with the art, colours and thought that went into entries.

“The quality, designs and imagination of all the entrants was subliminal; it made choosing very difficult indeed. In my eyes all the participants were winners for having entered the competition with such enthusiasm, and by doing this, raising awareness for such a great cause. I looked at each and every design from around the country, so well done to everyone.”

Kidsline CEO Jo Denvir says that Kidsline were overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of the entries.

“By wearing these badges, kids will see that it’s okay to have feelings – and to talk about those feelings,” she says. “We’re grateful to every young Kiwi who entered the competition. They’re all playing a part in putting back into the service that Kidsline provides to their peers.”

Kidsline Badges will retail for $2 and will be on sale at Farmers department stores throughout New Zealand from 3 – 13 September 2012.

One hundred per cent of the purchase price from each badge sold will go back to Kidsline to enable them to continue to provide support to the growing number of New Zealand children under 14 who call the service each year.
