What Should We Expect From Our Doctor?

What Should We Expect From Our Doctor?

In much of the western world the interfaces between doctors, patients, medicine and the law are not always happy.

The guest this week In Conversation with Noel Cheer on Triangle Television, Ron Paterson, says that part of the trouble is that we don’t question our doctors sufficiently; that doctors are overloaded by information, demands, complaints and compliance requirements … and that when a doctor appears less than competent, the loyalty of colleagues shelters him or her.

Author of "The Good Doctor: What Patients Want", Ron Paterson was the Health and Disability Commissioner for a decade and is now Professor of Health Law and Policy at the University of Auckland.

Triangle Television, Wednesday 29th of August at 7:00pm and repeated Thursday 30th of August at 12:30pm.

Triangle Television, the home of original public broadcasting, can be received in the Auckland region on UHF Channels 41, 42 and 52.

Triangle Television is also transmitted live on streaming TV – an emerging technology – which can be received (as a live feed) on broadband-connected computers and on Internet-connected television sets throughout New Zealand. "In Conversation with Noel Cheer" receives funding from New Zealand on Air. This has enabled Triangle Television to introduce viewers to over 200 New Zealanders on Air over the past 5 years of continuous weekly broadcasting.
